Q: What is Dupioni silk? What's the difference between it and 'washable silk'?
A: Dupioni silk is a thicker, stiffer silk than what is commonly used for scarves and other clothing. It is sometimes also called 'raw silk' or 'shantung silk'. It is characterized by it's brilliant range of colors and the large irregular threads that are woven throughout which are called 'slubs'. The majority of the silk ascots sold here at House of Krypilo are made using Dupioni silk. Dupioni silk is dry clean only.
Washable silk is usually a blend of silk and other fibers. It gives the look and feel of silk, but it is hand washable. It does not wrinkle as easily and is particularly well suited for under a shirt collar wear.
Q: What type shirt is that in your photos? What type of shirt can I wear with my ascot?
A: All of the ascots shown are displayed on a standard button down men's dress shirt. Worn with the collar turned up then folded down slightly over the tie/ cravat.
Q: What is a pocket square? Is it like a hankie?
A: A pocket square is made entirely for decoration, while a hankie is not. A pocket square is meant to be worn, folded with points facing up, in the small lapel pocket of a jacket or vest. Pocket squares are also smaller in size than hankies to cut down on bulkiness when worn in a pocket. The ones made for House of Krypilo are also made of two pieces of fabric so that it gives a crisp, finished look when worn.
Q: I missed out on that shirt/ jacket/ tie/ hat, will you be getting more?
A: Most of what you see listed here are one of a kind items. And they are made using small quantities of specialty fabrics. As a result, most will not be offered again once they are sold/ the last has run out.
Q: The item I got is a slightly different color than what I thought it would be, why is that?
A: Colors will vary from monitor to monitor, either brighter, darker, more red, more blue, etc.....
We try our hardest to give an accurate description of the color of the items in addition to detailed photos. However, our idea of Periwinkle blue, and your idea of periwinkle blue may differ. We cannot guarantee that the items you purchase will be an exact match for something else in your wardrobe.
